Online Therapy in Asheville, North Carolina
When it comes to finding a therapist, one of the biggest benefits of online therapy is that you have more choice and variety. You are not limited to only working with the counselors in your geographic area. You have more access to working with therapists who specialize in what you need. I have expertise in two major areas: using the Enneagram in therapy and breaking generational cycles of trauma. You may not have therapists that specialize in either of these areas in your city. Online therapy gives you more access to specialized therapists.
While I work with clients with a wide variety of experiences and concerns, there are several areas where I have specialized knowledge and a lot of experience:
Childhood Trauma
Sexual Abuse
Complex Family Dynamics
Recovering from Narcissistic Abuse
Complex Trauma
Anxiety
Enneagram
My therapy practice is fully online. We will meet using live video and interact just as we would face-to-face. Like many other counselors, I transitioned to online counseling due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I shut down my Asheville office on Chestnut Street, and initially I worried that the quality of therapy would go down. I worried that my clients wouldn’t get as much out of online therapy as they would in person.
My worries were unfounded and I was pleasantly surprised. I discovered that my clients had just as much growth and positive outcomes working online. My client’s discovery was that scheduling sessions became easier and more convenient. They could take less time off of work and spend less time in traffic navigating downtown Asheville parking. Being able to do therapy from the comfort of your own home is a big plus. My clients enjoy being at home in their comfy clothes with their pets and favorite mug of tea. Having your favorite things around you and being comfortable in your own environment can make talking about the hard stuff less challenging.
You also don’t have to meet in your home. Having the flexibility of online therapy means you can schedule a session while you're traveling or when you are on a break at work. Many of my clients enjoy this flexibility because it means they have to cancel less frequently. They are able to enjoy having a reliable and consistent time scheduled for therapy that works best for their schedule.
As I’m licensed in the state of North Carolina, I can only do therapy with clients who are physically located in North Carolina. If you are interested in doing Enneagram Coaching, a much more direct approach focusing specifically on your Enneagram type, you can be located anywhere.
FAQ:
Do I have to be at home for my session?
For online therapy you can meet anywhere that you are comfortable. I recommend that you select a location where you can have privacy and don’t have to worry about others overhearing you. You’ll likely feel more comfortable talking if you aren’t worried about a potential audience.
I want to work with you as an Enneagram therapist, is it okay if I don’t have trauma? Yes. We can incorporate the Enneagram into whatever you would like to focus on in therapy. Your personality type intertwines with everything from how you show up in relationships to what causes you anxiety. The Enneagram is an excellent tool that can be used to help you deeply understand yourself and your barriers to change. I can help you do the deep work of your type to become the healthiest version of yourself.
I want to use the Enneagram for my self-growth, but I’m unsure if I should do therapy or Enneagram Coaching. Learn more about the difference here.
What is a Cycle Breaker? A cycle breaker is a person who is intentionally examining the problematic patterns, rules, expectations, and beliefs that came from their family of origin in order to do things differently. They intentionally strive to be healthier than the families that raised them and desire to break the cycle of negative generational patterns continuing to get passed down family lines. Learn more about cycle breakers.
I want to use EMDR as I’ve heard it’s really effective for trauma. Does EMDR work online? Yes. My clients experience positive outcomes and are able to move past areas where trauma keeps them stuck by doing EMDR online. EMDR therapy can help alleviate trauma symptoms using eye-movements that help stimulate new neural pathways in the brain.
Will insurance cover online counseling?
I am a private pay practice which means I do not bill insurance directly. Your insurance may cover our sessions if you have “out-of-network” benefits on your insurance plan. I can provide you with a document containing all of the information insurance companies need to reimburse you. If you call your insurance company and inquire about their reimbursement rates, they will tell you what your plan covers.
Is it private?
My telehealth therapy platform is confidential and HIPPA compliant.
