Enneagram Therapy and Counseling:
A Path to Growth and Healing
Are you looking for a therapist who dynamically integrates the Enneagram into therapy? You’re in the right place.
As a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor specializing in Enneagram-based therapy, I work with individuals across North Carolina, including Asheville, Raleigh, and Charlotte, dealing with anxiety, complex family dynamics, childhood trauma, and more. Together, we’ll explore how your Enneagram type influences your life and how to harness its insights for meaningful growth and change.
How Enneagram Therapy Can Help You
If you know your type and you’re ready to embrace Enneagram work, your growth has the potential to substantially accelerate. The Enneagram isn’t just a tool—it’s a mirror and a map. As your therapist, I act as a compass, helping you navigate the small and large obstacles your Enneagram type creates in your life. Together, we’ll illuminate the shadow and subconscious parts that keep you stuck in the same patterns. I combine this work with evidence-based therapeutic techniques to address trauma, anxiety, and other mental health challenges.
Using the Embodiment Tradition of the Enneagram
I was trained in the Embodiment Tradition of the Enneagram under Dr. Lissa Friedman, who studied at the Arica School and developed this dynamic approach. This tradition places significant focus on body energetics and the essence of each Enneagram type. The energetics of your type show up in everything—from your triad to your subtype to the energy of your fixated and expanded traits. This deeper layer of understanding adds richness to typing and, more importantly, to healing.
I have developed several somatic techniques specific to each Enneagram type that we’ll use in therapy to help you face fears and embrace your full authentic capacity. These techniques incorporate the body’s wisdom and are tailored to guide you through the deep work your type requires.
Many of the people I work with have been searching specifically for a counselor who uses the Enneagram in therapy, and they’re ready to dive into the process. If this resonates with you, the first step is to schedule a free 20-minute consultation. Click here to schedule your consultation.
What to Expect in Our Enneagram Therapy Sessions
When we begin therapy, I’ll ask a series of questions to better understand your history, your experience with your type, and how you’re using—or hindering—your strengths. Together, we’ll identify what’s working in your life and what’s not. I’ll ask questions specifically designed to challenge and support your growth. We’ll dig deep to uncover the root of your type’s patterns and explore how they contribute to your anxiety or limit your ability to move past trauma.
Our sessions will also focus on tuning into your body and understanding what it’s communicating to you. While some Enneagram types tend to disconnect from their bodies, every type experiences physical sensations that can be powerful sources of self-knowing and wisdom. We’ll work together to integrate the three intelligence centers—body, heart, and mind—to help you grow into the healthiest version of your type. Integrating these centers is central to Enneagram work and essential for trauma recovery.
I’m a Trauma Therapist Who Works with Cycle Breakers
In addition to Enneagram therapy, I specialize in trauma therapy for cycle breakers. Cycle breakers are individuals who recognize harmful patterns passed down through their families and are determined to do things differently. You may not use the term "cycle breaker" to describe yourself, but if you’ve felt the weight of these patterns and are ready to make a change, therapy can help.
Cycle breakers often experience:
Self-doubt, perfectionism, and anxiety, and struggle with comparing themselves to others.
A sense of loneliness and insecurity, sometimes unsure of where they truly belong.
Strained relationships due to poor communication in their family of origin.
Childhood trauma or emotional neglect.
Harmful family dynamics that were normalized in their upbringing.
Difficulty showing compassion for themselves, despite deep empathy for others.
An upbringing with emotionally immature parents.
Experiences of emotional or narcissistic abuse.
Cycle breakers are often the healthiest person in their family, even if they don’t realize it yet. They do the hard work of self-awareness and growth, and therapy can support them in breaking generational patterns and creating a new path forward.
Do I Need to Have Trauma to Benefit from Enneagram Therapy?
Absolutely not. You don’t need to identify as a cycle breaker or have trauma to benefit from Enneagram-based therapy. Whether you’re struggling with anxiety, improving relationships, or looking to become the healthiest version of your Enneagram type, I can help you meaningfully engage in this work.
What’s My Enneagram Type and What’s My Trauma?
This is a common question. When learning about trauma, it can be difficult to understand whether certain patterns come from your Enneagram type or from trauma itself. The truth is, both can be true.
We use our Enneagram personalities to protect ourselves and cope with life’s stresses and traumas. Sometimes these patterns serve us, but other times they hold us back. Trauma tends to make us more reliant on the fixated traits of our type. We cling to it more because it helps us feel safer. My role as your therapist is to help you discern which patterns are serving you and which ones are hindering your growth. Together, we’ll work to challenge and change the parts of your personality that no longer serve you.
